I attended an artist lecture last month where Michele Oka Doner introduced the work and personality of the Vignellis as she knew them personally. She pointed out how simplicity was the most important trait, in their design aesthetics as well as their lives. The fact that they often embraced public transport when they could have people drive them around was one of the examples. The designs are classic, simple and there is a bold use of colour. These make me nostalgic for earlier times, with basic technical faults that were all too common a few decades ago. I've created a collection of wearable artworks based on old technical faults, simplified using Vignelli's design aesthetics, and inspired by today's world.
